YOUTH EMPOWERMENT FOR CLIMATE CHANGE
Trà Vinh, May 30 – 31, 2024 – A trip titled with Youth Empowerment for Climate Change was organized for the group of four Korean friends. They are Ian, Junoh and their mothers. This is the first time we hosted a family group, which wows us a lot. Both young boys love to see how the world is fighting against climate change, which motivates them to choose to plant more mangroves in Tra Vinh province.
On May 30, 2024, we took them to see the mangrove islets in Cau Ngang district where they were impressed with our hard work since 2019. There are ISCHOOL Trà Vinh’s sixth and seventh grade students accompanying the group, who were very interested in learning about mangrove and its benefits. Junoh and Ian had the chance to present about the small mangrove project. These young students inspired to show us how they were serious in saving the Earth with their project.
May 31, 2024 was the second day of the trip when the group was joined by a local volunteer team. They were surprised at planting mangrove in the shrimp farm, which is more challenging than planting at the preventive mangrove forests. The group approached the concept of green shrimp farming. Ian and Junoh installed their 6 life tubes of mangrove at the shrimp pond of Mr. Pham Van Bac. The experiment is to see how the mangrove trees planted on the life tubes are different from the mangrove trees planted on the pond.
IAN’S AND JUNOH’S MANGROVE PROJECT:
-
Plant mangrove on each life tube with light soil and mud;
-
Put all these mangrove life tubes on the shrimp pond
-
Attach all the life tubes to make it strong and fixed
-
Monitor the growing process to compare the experiment and the mangrove trees on the pond.
