Project’s highlights:

  • Area: 02 hectares

  • Tree quantity: 3,334 trees

  • Type: Intsia Bijuga

  • Project category: Conservation

  • Duration: 04 years from June 2022 – June 2026

Tra Vinh, June 2022 – Gemalink proudly initiated its Seed – to – Ship platform since June 2022 with an aim to raise the public awareness to mangrove restoration. The company itself became the pioneer in saving the Intsia Bijuga, which does not exist popularly in the province.

With a goal to become the green port hub in Vietnam, Gemalink has continuously developed its ways of doing business in a green concept. The company reached MangLub VN to understand the local mangrove situation and quickly funded the first conservation project in Tra Vinh province.

The Intsia Bijuga, knownly as Merbau in timber market, has been categorized as the vulnerable tree by the IUCN. In Tra Vinh, the tree quantity is not as abundant as the other mangroves. This led to quick actions so that this kind of mangrove could be conserved timely.

This conservation project resulted from the sponsoring of nursery in 2021 by SK Innovation in the framework of Planting for the Planet project (PFP). Gemalink made the dream come true for protecting this vulnerable mangrove kind.

La Ghi hamlet of Duyen Hai district, about 60 km from Tra Vinh town, was selected for experimenting the first two hectares. The planting density is 1,667 trees/hectare, totaling 3,334 trees/2 hectares. Like the other projects, the budget is proven for four years, and it will be handed over to the local Forestry authorities.

As sharing by the Forestry officers, this is their first conservation project of mangrove trees. This gives them both hopes and challenges.

In 2023, Gemalink will launch its education to the community about this tree. By this way, protecting the Intsia Bijuga is not only the single effort of Gemalink or the local government, but also the community.
