Tra Vinh, June 2022 – SeedtoShip project welcomes Hapag lloyd Vietnam as a member in the journey of bring back the mangroves to our Earth. Hapag Lloyd VN decides to fund one hectare of Sonneratia Caseloaris in Nạng islet of My Long Bac commune, which is planned to start planting from June to July 2022.

 

The land nutrition of Nạng islet or Cau Ngang district is very favorbale to Sonneratia Caseolaris, the dominant mangrove trees of Tra Vinh as well as Mekong Delta. Although this mangrove kind can not be comparable to the Rhizophora Apiculata regarding carbon sequestion, it is famous as a pioneer tree in the brackish water area.

 

The project is categorized as the reforestation one, whose budget is covered in four years from 2022 to 2026. The monitoring is supposed quarterly in the next 3 years.

 

Educational aspect:

 

Like other reforestation project, education is always emphasized. The team is making plan to get the local community involvement by a team planting days in June & October, as well as spreading mangrove knowledge to more people by launching the Sonneratia Caseolaris knowledge in the form of learning page. It targets about 200 online participants

 

About the planting location:

Nạng islet is known as an uninhabited area with an coverage of nearly 400 hectares. On the islet, the mangrove trees are very diverse and are natural shelter for many forest animals.
